Demountable Wall Systems
Gentri Medical Center and Hospital Outpatient Department Renovation Project, Philippines
Project Background
This project is a renovation of a hospital’s outpatient department and supporting administrative spaces, located in Manila, Philippines. We chose the SG-86 partition system for the project, with walls standing at 2600 mm tall and covering a total area of 1060 square meters.
The main materials used are steel panel walls and all-steel doors with glass observation windows. Unlike regular office renovations, this project focused entirely on meeting the unique hygiene, durability, and maintenance needs of a hospital setting—especially in doctors’ offices, corridors, and related functional rooms.
Client’s Core Requirements
The client had three clear, non-negotiable core requirements for the project:
- Baseboards (skirting boards) must be 100 mm high.
- Steel panel surfaces must be treated with an antimicrobial to meet hospital hygiene standards.
- There must be no gaps between panels—this prevents dirt and bacteria from building up in crevices.
Unlike typical office projects, this hospital renovation didn’t prioritize aesthetics. The client’s main focus was ensuring the system was easy to clean, simple to maintain, and free of gaps that could harbor bacteria. These requirements get to the heart of what makes hospital environments unique: hygiene and durability are non-negotiable.
Why SG-86 Was Chosen
We didn’t select SG-86 as the default choice for hospital projects—it was chosen specifically because it checked all the client’s priority boxes:
- Antibacterial Steel Panels: The steel panels could be treated with antimicrobial coatings to directly meet the hospital’s hygiene requirements.
- Seamless Panel Joints: SG-86’s ability to create seamless joints was critical—fewer gaps mean a lower chance of dirt and bacteria accumulating, which is essential in a healthcare setting.
- Baseboard Integration: The system enabled precise coordination with the client’s existing 100 mm baseboards, ensuring a neat, cohesive finish.
- Standardized Installation: SG-86 supports consistent, efficient installation across different areas—doctors’ offices, corridors, and patient rooms—keeping the project on track.
Typically, we’d recommend SG-100 for hospital projects because it’s better suited for high-compliance, long-term use in demanding healthcare environments. But in this case, the client was cost-sensitive, and the project didn’t require higher fire ratings or more complex compliance standards. That made SG-86 the more appropriate, cost-effective choice.
System Specifications and Configuration
The core specifications we used for the project are as follows:
– System: SG-86
– Height: 2600 mm
– Area: 1060 square meters
– Wall Material: Steel panels
– Door Type: All-steel doors with glass observation windows
– Special Requirements: 100 mm baseboards, antimicrobial treatment for steel panels, seamless panel joints
This configuration ensured the project met all the hospital’s hygiene and durability standards while keeping the overall appearance clean and cohesive—exactly what a healthcare space needs.
On-Site Constraints and Solutions
The main challenges of this project weren’t about complex architectural integrations or unusual materials. Instead, they centered on meeting the strict, detailed requirements of a hospital environment. Here’s what we focused on during on-site work:
- Seamless Panel Joints: We worked to make panel joints as seamless as possible, eliminating any gaps where dirt and bacteria could hide.
- Consistent Antimicrobial Treatment: We took extra care to preserve the integrity of the antimicrobial coating during installation—any damage would compromise the hygiene standards.
- Baseboard Coordination: The client had already installed the 100 mm baseboards, so we needed to integrate the SG-86 system seamlessly with this existing setup to ensure neat, precise joints.
- Door-Wall Integration: We ensured all-steel doors were securely installed, balancing structural strength with the need for easy maintenance over time.
While there were no major hurdles like curtain wall connections or extra-tall spaces, the real test was in the details: precise baseboard integration, smooth surface continuity, and clean installation finishes. These small details make all the difference in a hospital setting.
Packaging Method
We followed standard export packaging procedures for this project. All components were labeled with wall and profile numbers, which made on-site sorting and installation much more efficient.
This approach ensured two key things: efficient on-site material identification and distribution, and accurate installation sequencing to maintain the precision required for a hospital’s finish standards.
Hospitals place a high priority on orderly installation and material accuracy. Any confusion during material sorting would slow down construction and disrupt on-site management—something we wanted to avoid entirely.
Results and Delivered Value
The project was completed successfully, and it shows just how versatile SG-86 is—it’s not just for standard offices, but also works effectively in hospital administrative areas and corridors.
Key takeaways from this project include:
- Versatility: SG-86 can be adapted to hospital environments, beyond its typical use in offices.
- Hygiene and Durability: The combination of steel panels, all-steel doors, and seamless joints met the hospital’s fundamental needs for hygiene, durability, and easy maintenance.
- Attention to Detail: The true value of hospital projects lies in the small, seemingly minor details—antimicrobial treatment, joint control, baseboard integration, and surface continuity. These details are what ultimately shape the user experience for staff and patients alike.
This case study highlights SG-86 as a cost-effective, reliable solution for hospital projects, offering a clean, durable, and hygienic partition system that’s tailored to the unique demands of healthcare environments.
