Chinese University of Hong Kong Office Project

Project Overview

Based in Hong Kong, China, this project covers the interior renovation of a university office building. We adopted our SG-86 double-sided 12mm tempered glass partition system for the whole space.

The building has 10 floors and a total area of around 4,500 square meters, and the entire renovation was completed in August 2023. We matched double-sided glass with cherry wood veneer throughout the space, and fitted solid wood doors with soundproof inner cores. The on-site structure features concrete slab ceilings and solid flooring, while all door locks and supporting hardware adopt imported DORMA-branded accessories.

Client’s Vision and Requirements

As a prestigious university, the client wanted a high-end, open, and modern office interior that could match the school’s overall image. They did not want a plain, repetitive standard decoration style.

The client specifically required a mixed design of full-view double glass and wood veneer. This design helps create a bright, modern, and transparent work environment while keeping the entire office tidy, orderly, and dignified.

Why We Selected the SG-86 System

There was no fire resistance requirement for this project, and the client also had a clear budget plan. For this reason, we chose the cost-effective SG-86 system instead of the higher-cost SG-100 model.

SG-86 is tailor-made for mainstream commercial office projects. It can perfectly combine glass partitions, wood veneer finishes, supporting door sets, and unified hardware accessories. The system also allows easy future layout adjustments, striking a good balance between overall performance and project cost.

Unlike traditional drywall, SG-86 delivers a unified, high-grade visual effect with transparent glass and a warm wood texture. It works perfectly for commercial offices, meeting rooms, and management office areas.

This glass-and-wood hybrid design keeps the space bright and transparent. At the same time, wood veneer and solid wood doors effectively improve overall grade and partial privacy for daily use.

On-Site Difficulties & Solutions

During construction, our main difficulty was the non-perpendicular connection between the new partition walls and the original building structural walls.

Instead of making forced adjustments during installation, our construction team pre-processed and trimmed the structural walls. Following unified installation standards for wall, floor, and ceiling tracks, we ensured smooth construction and standardized installation for the whole site.

Packaging and Logistics Arrangement

All materials were classified and packaged by floor, functional area, and wall serial number, in full accordance with the construction layout drawings.

Glass panels are uniformly customized at 1m in width, and wood veneer panels at 900mm, which greatly simplifies on-site handling and distribution. Supporting accessories for each independent wall are packed and labeled separately. We also confirmed outer carton sizes in advance with the client’s engineering team to ensure smooth delivery and storage.

Project Outcome & Core Value

The project was fully completed on schedule and fully met the client’s design expectations.

The combination of double glass and cherry veneer brings a modern, open, and high-quality office environment. With soundproof solid-wood doors, branded hardware, and an integrated design, the space maintains clear functional boundaries and overall integrity.

This project has become a classic reference case of the SG-86 system, widely applicable for high-end office renovation and university interior fit-out projects.
